Hints Hall

The history of the Hall is outlined in the Staffordshire County Council archives at http://www.staffspasttrack.org.uk/

The Hall and estate were bought in 1877 by James Chadwick, a wealthy cotton trader from the north of England. James had been born 15 Jul 1824 at Prestwich, Lancashire and on 25 Apr1854 he married Laura Janet Emma Barnett. James died 13 Apr 1892 at Queen's Gate Place, Middlesex leaving his wife Laura as owner of Hints Hall.

Laura Janet Emma Barnet had been born 18 Sep 1829 at Biggleswade, Bedford and she died 25 Dec 1916 at Hints, Staffordshire and is buried at St Bartholomew Churchyard.

The photos below are courtesy of Peter Mackenzie from Canada. In 2023 Peter found these in an album belonging to his grandmother. From handwritten captions the photographer was Georgina Maud Losack who would have been 25 years old at the time.

Driveway 1900

Maud Losack's father was Charles Warner Losack whose sister was Caroline Matilda Losack; Caroline married Robert Chadwick with whom they had a daughter named Laura Chadwick. The pictures were taken by Maud Losack when she was visiting her aunt Laura Janet Emma Chadwick.
