Hints History Project

There are gaps in our knowledge of some places, people and past events in our village, and the meetings on 10th February 2012 and 12th April 2013 organised by Gilly Fifield were a great success. Many villagers past and present brought along old photos and maps which expanded everyones' knowledge and whetted appetites to know more. We were joined by Val Wilkes and Eddie Shaw who, when children, were the last residents of the old Hints Hall before it fell into dis-repair and was demolished

Val and Eddie produced the wonderful  displays in the village hall, and Val has spent the last 4 years researching the history of Hints. She and Eddie have now completed The Hints History Book which has lots of details of how Hints has featured in history over the years and the importance of the Lords of the Manor, all presented in an informative and easy to read book with lots of maps, photos and drawings. They have very kindly  made 3 copies available to the village and these are in the care of Paul Blackmore, Val Edwards and Janet Clarke. If anyone wishes to borrow one, please contact one of the above - on a strict "library" type of loan!

As of October 2015, Val arranged for Lichfield Record Office and the William Salt Library in Stafford to each also have a copy of the Hints book, together with some research and supporting papers.  They have minor alterations from the Hints book, and once they have been processed and catalogued through the library systems they will be put on the shelves for public use.

If you have any information or stories from the distant or recent past please contact Gilly, or email history@hints-village.com
